Bluesky · from ChatGPT

Post to Bluesky from ChatGPT.

Bluesky connects with an app password. It belongs on our connection page, once — never in a ChatGPT message, which keeps everything you type.

Bluesky posts are short — 300 characters — and ChatGPT’s drafts are not, which makes this the network where a thread is the normal outcome rather than the exception. Ask ChatGPT to post to Bluesky and the check before sending says how many parts the text needs; the post then goes out as a genuine reply chain of up to 25 parts, root to reply to reply, the way someone scrolling reads it.

Bluesky is also the one network here whose posts can be read without logging in, so after publishing we can confirm the chain really exists by reading it back from a public server rather than taking anybody’s word for it. ChatGPT gets that confirmation in the reply, along with likes, reposts and replies once there are some.

Asking ChatGPT for a Bluesky post

The Bluesky ceilings in this exchange come from the same table the publisher enforces — the conversation is drawn, the numbers are not.

Set me up — what do you need?

Just the accounts. Connect them in the browser once and I can publish from here after that.

Done, connected

I will tell you before publishing if a network cannot take what you wrote.

Good. Drafting the launch note now

Send it over and I will check it before anything goes out.

Publishing to Bluesky from ChatGPT

Long drafts become proper chains

ChatGPT’s usual length turns into a reply chain in order, not a pile of separate posts that readers have to reassemble.

Checked on the network itself

Bluesky posts are publicly readable, so the reply can say the chain was found on the network, not only that an API returned success.

The app password stays out of the chat

It goes into our connection page once. Nothing you type to ChatGPT needs it, and a conversation is the last place a credential should live.

Engagement without impressions

Likes, reposts and replies come back into the chat. Bluesky reports no impressions, so that number stays empty rather than showing zero.

How it works

1

Connect once

~2 min

Link the accounts you use in a browser. OAuth, no passwords typed into a chat, no API keys to paste anywhere.

Ask, in your own words

one sentence

Tell ChatGPT to publish to Bluesky, now or on a day you name. No dashboard, no tab switch.

The one credential people try to paste into the chat

Most networks connect through a sign-in screen, so there is nothing to type. Bluesky is connected here with an app password — a separate password Bluesky lets you create for one tool and revoke later — and the obvious move, pasting it into the ChatGPT conversation so ChatGPT can pass it on, is the wrong one: the conversation keeps it, and ChatGPT has no tool that accepts it. App passwords belong on the 1Social accounts page, entered once, and they never travel through the chat at all.

A limitation of this product. Ours to fix. From documentation, checked 2026-10-27.

When this is the wrong tool

Posts that mention someone with an @ are still a weak spot here, so check those before relying on them. And if Bluesky is the only network you post to, Bluesky’s own app and the many free community tools may be all you need; this earns its place when Bluesky is one of several networks in the same message.

Questions people actually ask

Can ChatGPT post to Bluesky?

Yes, once your Bluesky account is connected to 1Social with an app password. ChatGPT can then publish single posts or reply chains and schedule them, and the reply confirms what landed.

Should I give ChatGPT my Bluesky app password?

No. Enter it on the 1Social accounts page instead. ChatGPT never needs it, has no tool that would accept it, and the conversation would keep a copy of it for as long as the chat exists.

How long can a Bluesky thread from ChatGPT be?

Up to 25 posts, each inside the 300-character limit. The check before sending tells you how many parts the draft needs, so a very long one can be cut down before it goes.
