Threads · from ChatGPT

Post to Threads from ChatGPT.

Threads is part of Instagram for its users and a separate connection for software. Connect it once on its own and ChatGPT can post there too.

Threads tends to be added to a ChatGPT request as an afterthought — “and Threads too” — because for the people using it, it is part of Instagram. For publishing software it is not: Threads has its own API and its own permission screen, so it needs its own connection. Once it has one, ChatGPT can post text, photos and video there alongside everything else, with a separate receipt for Threads in the reply.

Posts run to 500 characters with up to 10 attachments. A multi-part draft is joined into one post rather than chained, and the joined text is measured against the limit before sending. Video goes through without fuss, including formats several older networks turn down, and views, likes and replies come back for the posts once Threads reports them.

Asking ChatGPT for a Threads post

The Threads ceilings in this exchange come from the same table the publisher enforces — the conversation is drawn, the numbers are not.

Set me up — what do you need?

Just the accounts. Connect them in the browser once and I can publish from here after that.

Done, connected

I will tell you before publishing if a network cannot take what you wrote.

Good. Drafting the launch note now

Send it over and I will check it before anything goes out.

Also put it on Threads — same text, and use the shorter version of the photo caption

Publishing to Threads from ChatGPT

Its own connection, on purpose

Threads runs through a separate permission screen from Instagram, so connecting one does not quietly grant the other access to your account.

Video that just goes

Clips attached in ChatGPT publish to Threads in formats that some better-known networks reject, without being converted first.

Numbers back in the chat

Views, likes, replies and reposts come back for Threads posts, so “how did that do?” has an answer in the same conversation.

Joined, not chained

A draft in several parts arrives on Threads as one post, measured as a whole against the limit, rather than failing as a chain.

How it works

1

Connect once

~2 min

Link the accounts you use in a browser. OAuth, no passwords typed into a chat, no API keys to paste anywhere.

2

Ask, in your own words

one sentence

Tell ChatGPT to publish to Threads, now or on a day you name. No dashboard, no tab switch.

3

Read the receipt

per network

One line per network — what landed, what failed and why, and what genuinely could not be determined.

Connecting Instagram does not connect Threads

People reasonably expect one Meta login to cover both, so the first “post this to Threads” after connecting Instagram can find no Threads account to post to. That is not an oversight on either side: Threads publishing goes through its own Meta app, with its own consent screen and its own permissions, separate from the one that publishes to Instagram. ChatGPT lists the accounts that are actually connected before it publishes, so the gap shows up as a sentence in the chat rather than as a post that silently went nowhere.

A limitation of this product. Ours to fix. Measured on a live account, 2026-10-27.

When this is the wrong tool

If you need posts removed from Threads programmatically, this will not do it: deletion is not available here for Threads, and a published post stays live until you take it down in the app. Reply chains are not available either, so a thread you planned as several connected posts arrives as one.

Questions people actually ask

Can ChatGPT post to Threads?

Yes, once Threads is connected to 1Social — separately from Instagram. After that ChatGPT can publish text, photos and video there, on their own or alongside other networks, and the reply has a line for Threads.

Why does ChatGPT say no Threads account is connected?

Because Threads has its own connection, even if Instagram is already set up. Connect Threads once from the 1Social accounts page and it will be listed the next time ChatGPT checks.

Can I post a thread of several connected posts?

Not on Threads, for now. A multi-part draft is joined into one post and checked against the limit as a whole. Bluesky and X do chain, if a real chain is what you need.
