Instagram and TikTok need an image or video — they have no text-only post. We tell you before you publish, not after.
Instagram and TikTok reject a caption with no picture or video attached — not as a preference but as a rule of the network, applied at the moment of publishing. In a cross-post that single rule is what breaks a batch: everything else goes out, those two come back refused, and the error you get is written for a developer rather than for you.
Attach the image where you are already writing and it travels with the post. Carousels work where the network supports them, video works on more networks than we expected it to, and everything that would be refused for the wrong file type is caught before it leaves rather than relayed back as somebody else’s error code.

The figures in this exchange are read from the same table the publisher enforces — the networks really do disagree with each other this much.

One network takes a single image format and the rest take anything. That is checked against the file before an upload starts, rather than after it finishes.

Proportions are not checked
Some networks refuse an image for its shape and we cannot test that yet — we never stored the dimensions. A wrongly shaped picture still fails, accurately, at the network.

The check we cannot run yet, said out loud
Some networks care about the proportions of a picture, not just its format, and a banner-shaped image gets refused where a square one of the same file type publishes fine. We do not check that before sending, and the reason is dull: we never stored image dimensions, so there is nothing to compare a ratio against. A wrongly shaped image therefore still fails at the network — with an accurate message now, and without being retried three times on the assumption it was a temporary glitch, but it fails. It is on the list, it is not done, and a page that quietly implied otherwise would be the kind of thing this product exists to avoid.

When this is the wrong tool
We do not edit, crop or resize anything. If a network wants a particular shape, the image has to arrive in that shape — there is no step here that will quietly reframe your picture, and nothing that generates one for you either.
Questions people actually ask
Which networks refuse a post with no image?
Instagram and TikTok. Neither has a text-only post, and both refusals come from the network itself. The check happens before publishing so you hear it in the chat rather than in a receipt.
Why was my PNG rejected on one network but not another?
TikTok genuinely takes JPEG only — the same picture at the same size published as JPEG and failed as PNG. Elsewhere a rejected image is almost always about proportions rather than file type, which took us one wrong conclusion to establish.
Can I post video?
Yes, on the networks that accept it, including some fairly awkward encodings that we expected to be refused and were not. Where a network needs something specific of a video we would rather tell you than let it fail at the far end.
