YouTube Shorts · from ChatGPT

Post YouTube Shorts from ChatGPT.

A clip handed over in a chat never passes through a browser, so the check that it is a real Short happens on our side, as the file streams in.

A YouTube Short is just a video that is vertical or square and no longer than three minutes; anything else uploads as an ordinary video on your channel, and YouTube does not warn you. When you attach a clip in ChatGPT and ask for a Short, the file comes straight to the publishing tool — and since it never went through a browser where its shape could be read, we read the frame and the length off the file itself as it streams to storage.

The first line of your message becomes the title and the whole text becomes the description, up to 5,000 characters. One video per post. The channel is connected with an ordinary Google sign-in, on an app Google has verified for uploading, and ChatGPT can publish the same clip to TikTok and Instagram from the same message if you ask.

Asking ChatGPT for a YouTube Shorts post

The YouTube Shorts ceilings in this exchange come from the same table the publisher enforces — the conversation is drawn, the numbers are not.

Set me up — what do you need?

Just the accounts. Connect them in the browser once and I can publish from here after that.

Done, connected

I will tell you before publishing if a network cannot take what you wrote.

Good. Drafting the launch note now

Send it over and I will check it before anything goes out.

Publishing to YouTube Shorts from ChatGPT

Checked as it streams in

The clip attached in ChatGPT is read on its way to storage, so a landscape or over-long video is refused before YouTube gets the chance to misfile it.

The first line becomes the title

No separate field: the opening line of your message is the Short’s title and the full text is its description underneath.

One clip, three destinations

The same vertical video can go to Shorts, TikTok and Instagram from a single ChatGPT message, each checked on its own rules.

A daily allowance, shared

YouTube limits how many uploads our app can make in a day. If the allowance runs out, the reply says when it frees up instead of retrying in a loop.

The check that cannot happen in a browser

In our web composer the shape and length of a video are read in your browser when you pick the file. A clip attached in ChatGPT never sees that browser — it goes from ChatGPT to the publishing tool directly — so the same check would simply not run. Instead the file is read as it streams through to storage, from the MP4 or MOV container, without downloading it a second time. It works for the formats phones and editors produce; a clip in an unusual container goes unchecked rather than refused on a guess.

A limitation of this product. Ours to fix. From documentation, checked 2026-10-27.

When this is the wrong tool

Long-form YouTube videos are not supported from ChatGPT or anywhere else here — every upload is a Short. Custom thumbnails, playlists and comments are not available either, and a published Short cannot be deleted from the chat. If your channel is mostly long videos, this covers the Shorts and nothing else.

Questions people actually ask

Can ChatGPT upload a video to YouTube?

As a YouTube Short, yes, once your channel is connected. Attach a vertical video of up to three minutes, give it a first line for the title, and ChatGPT publishes it. Regular long-form uploads are not supported.

Why did ChatGPT refuse my clip for Shorts?

Because it was horizontal or longer than three minutes, which YouTube would have published as an ordinary video instead of a Short. The frame and length are read from the file before it uploads, and the reply says which rule it broke.

Does the YouTube channel need anything set up first?

Only the connection: an ordinary Google sign-in from the 1Social accounts page, choosing the channel. There is no Google Cloud project or API key to create — that part is already done and verified on our side.
