Instagram · from Claude

Claude can look at the photo you dropped in. It cannot pass that file on to a tool — so for Instagram, the picture has to travel as a link.

Instagram will not publish a caption without a picture, and that single rule shapes what posting from Claude is like. When you drop a photo into a Claude conversation, Claude can see it and write about it, but it does not hand the file itself to a connector. So the picture reaches us the other way: as a public link to the image file — one you paste, or one Claude produces through our upload tool when it has the file and a way to send it.

Once the image is there, the rest is the same as anywhere: the draft is checked against Instagram before sending — picture present, caption within 2,200 characters, carousel within 10 items — and published through Meta’s API on the professional account you signed in with. Claude gets a receipt for Instagram in the reply, separate from any other network in the message.

Asking Claude for an Instagram post

The Instagram ceilings in this exchange come from the same table the publisher enforces — the conversation is drawn, the numbers are not.

Set me up — what do you need?

Just the accounts. Connect them in the browser once and I can publish from here after that.

Done, connected

I will tell you before publishing if a network cannot take what you wrote.

Good. Drafting the launch note now

Send it over and I will check it before anything goes out.

Post this to Instagram at noon with the caption we settled on: https://assets.example.com/launch/cover.jpg

The link opens to the image itself, so Instagram can use it:

Publishing to Instagram from Claude

A link to the picture is enough

Paste a public link to the image file — your own storage, a CDN, an asset host — and Claude can post it. The link only needs to work for as long as the publish takes.

Checked before Instagram sees it

A missing or unreachable picture is caught in the check and explained in the chat, rather than sent and refused by Instagram afterwards.

Carousels from a list of links

Several links in one message become one Instagram carousel, in the order you gave them, up to the network’s own limit.

Scheduled from the conversation

Name the time and the post waits on our side, so the Claude conversation can be closed and the post still goes out on schedule.

How it works

Claude never passed us a file

Across every publish from Claude in the browser and the apps over the last month, not one carried an attached file — against roughly three in five from ChatGPT. Each one that had media used a link instead, many of them produced by our upload tool. It is not a fault anyone needs to fix so much as a difference in how the two clients hand things to a connector, and on Instagram it is the difference that decides whether a post can be made at all. Plan for the link and the rest is ordinary.

A rule of Instagram from Claude, not ours and not the network’s. Measured on a live account, 2026-10-27.

When this is the wrong tool

If your photos only live on your phone and you want to drop one into Claude and see it on Instagram a minute later, ChatGPT handles that step more directly today, because it passes the file itself. From Claude it works, but the picture has to be reachable by a link first.

Questions people actually ask

Can Claude post to Instagram?

Yes, with 1Social connected and a picture Claude can link to. Claude calls the publishing tool, the post goes out through Instagram’s API on your professional account, and the reply says whether it was published.

Why can’t Claude use the photo I attached?

Claude can read an attached image, but it does not pass the file itself to connectors. The picture has to be given as a public link to the image file, which our upload tool can create when Claude has a way to send the file.

What kind of link works for the image?

One that opens the image file itself, for anyone, without signing in. A link to a page that shows the picture — a gallery, a shared-drive preview — is a web page rather than an image, and it is refused before Instagram is asked.
